“Composites 3” will be launched in November

Edited by the Brazilian Composite Materials Association, the book brings together hundreds of examples of the material application

The Brazilian Composite Materials Association (ABMACO) has already started the production of “Composites 3”, closing the trilogy “Composites” started in 2008. The publication, scheduled to be launched on Nov/09, will bring together hundreds of examples of the material application in the following industries: construction, wind energy, transportation (heavy-duty vehicles), automotive (light-duty vehicles), marine, aerospace, agribusiness, road equipment, corrosion, armoring, infrastructure and leisure. “Containing several illustrations, the book will act as a great guide to the potential use of composites”, says Gilmar Lima, president of ABMACO.

According to Lima, the new publication shall help manufacturers to convince their potential customers about the flexibility and excellent performance of the material. “While the first two volumes focused on the descriptions of raw materials and processes, the third will have a much more marketable approach”, he says.

In addition to the applications, “Composites 3” will bring a mini-dictionary containing the key terms used by the industry, as well as the sizes of the Brazilian, American, European and Asian markets. “We will also present a study related to the sustainability of the material and a research that shows the importance of design as a tool to differentiate the companies that manufacturer composites”.

The new ABMACO’s book also stands out for being the first technical publication edited in Brazil in 3D – the cover and the pages that divide each chapter have this feature. “It has everything to do with the message we want to convey to the market, that is, to always associate composites with leading-edge technology”, says Lima.

By shaping over 40,000 products worldwide, composites combine lightness and extreme strength. In Brazil, the civil construction industry is the consumption leader, followed by the industries of power generation – wind, in particular – and transportation. In 2009, the sector represented by ABMACO led to a turnover of US$ 1.25 billion, a figure that should grow at least 10% this year, according to the association's forecast.

About ABMACO

Established in 1981, the Brazilian Composite Materials Association (ABMACO) represents the entire production chain of composites or fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP), a material that has over 40,000 applications cataloged worldwide, from water storage tanks to pipes and aircraft and rocket parts. Presided by Gilmar Lima, General Director of MVC Plásticos, ABMACO has 252 members and holds, together with Institute for Technological Research (IPT), the Composites Technologic Center (CETECOM), the largest of its segment in Latin America.
